WISBECH SOCIETY & PRESERVATION TRUST LTD

Wisbech Society and Preservation Trust continues working hard to safeguard the history and heritage of Wisbech, capital of the Fens, keeping a close eye on renovation projects as well as providing funding where appropriate: as with its contribution to the restoration of the town's Clarkson memorial, a landmark monument to Wisbech-born Thomas Clarkson who played a leading role in the abolition of slavery.

An active and effective civic society, the Wisbech Society and Preservation Trust also takes great pride in the commemoration and celebration of the town's cultural past, including its many eminent citizens installing blue plaques on several relevant buildings around the town. Membership is open to all, with the annual fee not only helping fund the Society's many and varied activities, but also allowing access to a programme of fascinating winter lectures and a series of exclusive trips in the spring and summer months.

The Wisbech Interfaith Forum was established to promote good relations between Christian and non-Christian religions and between them both and the wider community, including those of no faith.

The Wisbech Interfaith Forum has sought to increase awareness of the diversity of faith in modern Britain and provide a safe place for dialogue to occur.

The Wisbech Interfaith Forum organises:

* Speakers on faith and how it impacts on the life of the community
* Visits to the places of worship of a variety of faiths
* Opportunities for school students to encounter a wide variety of beliefs and members of different faiths.

We have no paid employees, and the committee meets at least bi-monthly to discuss and organise projects.

What to do in the event of flooding

According to the Environment Agency, over five million people in England live and work in properties at risk of flooding from rivers or the sea, whilst more face flood threats from groundwater, surface water, sewers, and reservoirs.

https://www.comparethemarket.com/home-insurance/content/i-live-in-a-high-risk-flood-area-will-this-impact-my-home-insurance/

In extreme conditions you won't be able to stop flood water, and you should always put personal safety above attempts to protect property and possessions. Despite this, there are steps that you can take to keep water out, to buy yourself time to preserve property and possessions, and to limit the damage that flood water does.
