FREE Parent/carer EHCP Request workshop

FREE Parent/carer EHCP Request workshop

Fri, 04 May 2018 09:30

The Children and Families Act has introduced changes to the ways children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are supported. One of these changes is a new assessment process with an integrated Education, Health and Care Plan (EHC Plan) replacing Statements of Special Educational Needs and Learning Disability Assessments. The EHC Plan is for children and young people aged 0 – 25. It focuses on identifying individual outcomes and puts children, young people and their families at the centre of the assessment, planning and review process. EHC Plans will have the same protection in law as a Statement of SEN.

Bushcraft Workshop

Sat, 05 May 2018 10:30

During the workshop, instruction will include some of the following:

Protection (fire/shelter), Water (collection & purification) and Food (hunting/trapping & foraging). There will be a walk around the site to discover what the natural environment has to offer that can assist you. You will also have the opportunity to try some fire lighting methods, both modern and those that our ancestors would have had to use during everyday living and experience building a shelter.

As the nature of bushcraft and survival instruction involves handling fire, knives & other age sensitive equipment, for safety reasons it is necessary that children under 18 are accompanied by an adult directly responsible for them.

The maximum number of children per adult is 2 and the maximum number of people per course is 12.

Prices:
1 Adult & 1 Child - £20.00
2 Adults & 2 Children - £30.00

We will be digging and sieving the soil in 4 test pits spread over the museum garden.

The dig will take place over five days from Tuesday 29th May to Saturday 2nd June 2018.

All places are available for a half day session and its all totally free. All ages welcome.

You don't need to have any previous experience and all training and equipment will be provided.

If you prefer not to dig you can sieve the excavated soil or help wash the finds.

Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come-first served basis so don't delay – apply today!!

Morning Sessions 10.00am – 12.30pm

Afternoon Sessions 1.30pm – 4.00pm

(Initial 30 minutes at the beginning of each session will be a health & safety briefing and project introduction/update)

To book a place or for more information, please contact Taleyna on 01354 622210 or email tfletcher@fenland.gov.uk with the session you'd like to attend (morning or afternoon) and whether you would prefer to dig, sieve or wash finds.

Can't make it?

If you cant join in with the dig, you can still come along between 10am and 4pm each day to see work in progress. There will also be children's activities organised by FenArch and competitions with prizes to be won.

There will be displays about the history of the site and a chance to view the "finds" coming out of the ground.

Access to the dig is from the museum gardens opposite St Peters Church.

There will be other events later in the year including an opportunity to learn how to undertake archaeological building recording using the High Street buildings.

An exhibition displaying finds and results will be held at The Gap at No 24 High Street and at the museum next year.

Gypsy Roma and Traveller History Month 1-30 June

Gypsy Roma and Traveller History Month 1-30 June

Fri, 01 Jun 2018

1-30 June every year: Raising awareness of these communities in the UK.

Gypsies, Roma and Travellers are the largest ethnic minority community in the European Union with over 12 million people across the EU and some 300,000 in the UK. They are very marginalised and suffer extreme levels of prejudice and discrimination. Fenland has the largest population of Gypsy travellers of any district in England.

Gypsy Roma and Traveller History Month was established in Britain in 2008 as a way of raising awareness of these communities and their contributions to society, and to offset negative stereotyping and prejudices.

Great Ormond Street Charity Ball

Sat, 02 Jun 2018 19:30

Some of you know my son Travis had to have an operation two years ago. Travis was diagnosed with coarctation (narrowing) of the Aorta the body's largest artery. Without treatment there can be many complications with the most leading to heart failure. So they fitted a Stent to widen the Aorta and this was then further stretched during a procedure in 2017. So my family and I would like to raise some money to help the wonderful staff at Great Ormond Street to help others.
