Talkin' 'bout my generation - Project co-ordinator Hilary Cox Condron and Pop Culture Archivist Jess Johnston from Talkin Bout My Generation at the Horsefair

Talkin' 'bout my generation - Project co-ordinator Hilary Cox Condron and Pop Culture Archivist Jess Johnston from Talkin Bout My Generation at the Horsefair

Thu, 29 Mar 2018 10:00

On Thursday 29th March Mods, Rockers, Hippies and Punks are invited to the Horsefair to celebrate musical memories of the 60s, 70s and 80s.

The event at the Centre, running from 10am to 3pm, will be playing classic singles and providing clothes and accessories from the eras to dress up in, whilst sharing memories and stories of the music scene from Wisbech in years gone by.

Talkin Bout My Generation is a Heritage Lottery Fund project ran by Hilary Cox Condron and pop culture archivist, Jess Johnston. Hilary and Jess will be at the Horsefair Shopping Centre, at the side of Boots, gathering memories and stories of the music scene in Wisbech.

Project co-ordinator, Hilary, said: "Talkin Bout My Generation wants YOUR stories! Come along to the Horsefair on the 29th, and be prepared to have your memories tickled, spin a few singles in our retro music booths, dress up in the clothes and accessories of the era, share photos and stories and even go back to the day with some classic scents and tastes. Old Spice and Spacedust, anyone?! From buying your first record at Clarke's to gigs at the Corn Exchange and playing in local bands – we would love to hear your stories and see your photos."

The rediscovered musical heritage will be publicly shared on the CCAN (Cambridgeshire Community Archive Network) website www.mygeneration.ccan.co.uk and an exhibition, film and publication will share the project's findings.

This Heritage Lottery Fund project was inspired by, and is the result of, the partnerships developed through MarketPlace, which is a Creative People and Places arts engagement programme for Fenland and Forest Heath, for which Babylon ARTS is the lead Consortium partner.

After Hours Live - Rebecca Vyce

Fri, 06 Apr 2018 19:00

Coming up on Friday 6th April 2018 we are having Rebekah Vyce.

Have you ever been to one of those gigs where the crowd falls eerily silent and hangs on every word of every song? Rebekah has that effect on an audience.

An experienced vocalist with a voice blending subtle tones of soul, folk & pop. A songwriter of beautiful melodies that will stay in your head for days, and lyrics that are honest, full of stories, hope and integrity - Rebekah's music will captivate you. With piano based song writing, lush harmonies, real instruments, and simple but beautiful arrangements, this music is a brilliant gem in a crowded music industry.

Come along for a relaxed evening of entertainment. 7pm - 9pm

Refreshments available for purchase.

East Wisbech Broad Concept Plan

Mon, 23 Apr 2018 14:00

Local people are being given a further opportunity to help shape a major development that will bring hundreds of new homes and associated services and facilities to East Wisbech.

Fenland District Council (FDC) and the Borough Council of King's Lynn and West Norfolk (BCKLWN), alongside landowners and other stakeholders, have been working on the preparation of a draft Broad Concept Plan (BCP). This is a high level development masterplan for the area.

The BCP incorporates feedback from a public consultation during December 2016. It will help shape the East Wisbech development that will deliver around 1,500 new homes, a new primary school and local centre, as well as associated infrastructure.

The new housing is earmarked for the area to the south of Walsoken. It has already been approved in principle through the Local Plans that have been adopted by FDC and BCKLWN.

The development, which is already part of the two councils' Local Plans, is expected to be completed within the next 15 years. It is completely separate from the Wisbech Garden Town proposal, which is a much longer-term vision.

Have your say on the draft BCP between April 12 and May 3.

Please send your comments in writing to neighbourhoodstrategy@fenland.gov.uk or the Neighbourhood Strategy Team at Fenland District Council, Fenland Hall, County Road, March, Cambs, PE15 8NQ. Comments must be recieved by Thursday 3 May 2018.

A consultation exhibition will also be held at Walsoken Village Hall on Monday, April 23. Staff and stakeholders will be there between 2pm-8pm to answer any questions.

FREE Parent/carer EHCP Request workshop

FREE Parent/carer EHCP Request workshop

Fri, 04 May 2018 09:30

The Children and Families Act has introduced changes to the ways children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are supported. One of these changes is a new assessment process with an integrated Education, Health and Care Plan (EHC Plan) replacing Statements of Special Educational Needs and Learning Disability Assessments. The EHC Plan is for children and young people aged 0 – 25. It focuses on identifying individual outcomes and puts children, young people and their families at the centre of the assessment, planning and review process. EHC Plans will have the same protection in law as a Statement of SEN.
