6pm - 8.30pm

Calling all artists curious about working with technology, all technologists curious about working with artists, and anyone else interested in arts and technology! Come and find out more in a relaxed, sociable environment.

Speaker | James Delaney, Blockworks

Blockworks (www.blockworks.uk) is an internationally acclaimed design studio and consultancy working with Minecraft. Over the past 4 years, the team have developed expertise in maximising the huge potential of Minecraft in marketing, media and education.

James will join us to talk about his approach to using Minecraft creatively and how they create experiences, communities, and learning environments. Having worked with big brands such as Disney, Microsoft, Tate and the V&A, James will give us the run-down on past and present projects in their portfolio.

Following the first R&D project in Wisbech, The Brink of the Future, Collusion is planning our next project that'll explore technologies such as Minecraft, and we want you to be part of it.

This Meetup will be informal and we will share info about Collusion and the in_collusion project. This is an open invite so please feel free to bring along people who you believe would be interested in hearing more.

Hope to see you there!

Wisbech Society - Aldo Ierubino presentation "The Peckovers' Grand Tour of Italy in 1872"

Mon, 05 Feb 2018 19:30

There has been a change of programme and Aldo Ierubino will now be delivering his presentation "The Peckovers' Grand Tour of Italy in 1872"

Jan Munt's presentation " Ely Cathedral – its history and symbolism" will be on 12th March 2018.

In the 18th and 19th centuries wealthy aristocrats of day usually toured Europe as a means of completing their classical education and in this, the Peckovers, were no exception. Most European capitals were included in the itinerary but Rome was the ultimate destination The rapid expansion of the rail network in Europe in the C19th greatly facilitated such touring. Thomas Cook had organised his first continental tours in 1855 with his first Italian sortie being in the summer of 1864. However, a "package holiday" was not for the Peckovers!

They organised their own tour by road and rail and it is tempting to imagine them pouring over a copy Bradshaw's Continental Railway Guide when planning their Italian adventure.

With his Italian heritage, not to mention his knowledge of the arts, Aldo Ierubino is sure to bring this continental trip to life. Come and imagine basking in some Italian sunshine in the depth of a Wisbech winter. It promises to be the trip of a lifetime!

Entry is free for Wisbech Society members and £3 for non-members.

Neil Cousin & The Dan The D in concert at The Angles

Neil Cousin & The Dan The D in concert at The Angles

Fri, 09 Feb 2018 19:30

Neil Cousin and Dan Donovan are singer-songwriters living and breathing music in the Fens. Neil writes songs about nothing, stream of consciousness anecdotes and unreliable testimonies to events that never happened. Dan writes gritty blues folk renditions from the soul.

With extensive back catalogues of tunes these two friends will be entertaining and sharing their individual music for one night on the beautiful intimate stage in their hometown of Wisbech. The evening promises dry humour and brooding melodies to light up a dark, possibly wet Fenland evening.

Dan Donovan
"Howling blues."
John Atkin - Rock'n'Reel magazine.
"A brooding cocktail of coal black imagery and nocturnal poetry."
Nick Churchill - FATEA magazine.

Neil Cousin
"Clever lyrics and subtle and inspired music."
FATEA Magazine
"Cousin has a way with words, switching easily between the prosaic and
the metaphorical, and always finding an image that evokes a plurality of meanings."
Oliver Arditi

Fenland 1816, the end of the Napoleonic Wars: wages are low; prices are high; employment is scarce; and the harvest failing. A volcanic dust cloud spreads across Europe and America. Fenland explodes in riot and six rioters will hang.
Historical author Gareth Calway narrates the cataclysmic events of May-June 1816 as seen by a soldier, John, returning victorious from the Napoleonic Wars. Folk-balladeer Andy Wall interweaves a musical narrative with six stirring ballads, combining pathos, defiance and humour, as returning sailor Jack.

"These are the real histories and stories of the Fenland people. You are keeping them alive." - Audience Member at the Milk Maid, Bury St Edmunds Festival. May 19 2017.
