The Museum of Technology the History of Gadgets and Gizmos

The Museum of Technology the History of Gadgets and Gizmos

Thu, 11 May 2017 10:00

The Museum of Technology the History of Gadgets and Gizmos re-Opens on Thursday May 11th 2017 and every Thursday, Friday and Saturday till Saturday 2nd September 2017.
The opening hours are from 10.00am to 4.00pm.
Entrance is £5 for adults, £2.50 for children and £12.50 for families
Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
We do not have card facilities.
The museum is all on one level, so is perfect for wheelchair users, there is a small café, and later in the season we hope to have picnic tables and benches outside, enabling visitors to enjoy the beautiful surrounding country side.
From October 2016 through to February 2017 volunteers made three more cabinets to accommodate a further selection of photography, electronic and mechanical objects, some of which can be demonstrated. During the closed season we invited different groups to visit the museum, these visits proved to be very popular and we hope to continue to do the same thing this year.
Since opening in August 2016 we have had over 350 visitors, people love to see how the world worked before digital technology took over, our visitors have a really good time remembering what they and their parents and grandparents used to use.
Life was a lot different when we used wind up gramophones, watched TV on 9 inch screens and used old pennies in A&B telephones.
This year, thanks to a grant from Wryde Croft Wind Farm Community Fund, we are planning to furnish the Community Room, with tables, chairs, projector etc. Once this is done we intend to invite Dementia Groups and Care Homes to use the facilities we have to offer.
Reminiscence sessions can be conducted in a safe and comfortable environment using our Memory Boxes which contain many items from times gone by. Please see the web site for more details
Please get in touch if you would like more information about this new and exciting facility.

Recycling fun for families at eco day

Recycling fun for families at eco day

Recycling fun for families at eco day

Reduce, reuse and recycle will be the order of the day when an Eco Family Fun Day is held at the Queen Mary Centre in Wisbech on Tuesday, May 30, from 10am to 2pm.

A treasure bug hunt, worm hotel building and a repair café will be just some of the fun activities on offer at the free, half-term event designed to help families with their recycling and reuse.
The day is the first in a range of events being held across the county over the next year by Fenland District Council's and Cambridgeshire County Council's waste management partner Amey.

Lisa Constanti-Duggan, Amey's waste education manager, said: "The aim of the day is to showcase different initiatives across the county where recycling, reuse and reduction are happening right now, as well as provide people with inspiration for how to make the most of (and reduce) their own waste. "Through a range of activities and information sharing, we hope that the event motivates people to make a difference and create a sustainable Cambridgeshire."

The fun day will help families to be confident with their recycling using a range of craft and educational activities.

Youngsters can become 'Superworm Champion Composters' by building their own worm hotels, make their own compost stew and bug hunting kits, and take part in a bug treasure hunt.
Following a new national trend, experts will also be on-hand to help repair broken electronics, bikes and households items that residents can bring into a Repair Café.

There will also be lots of recycling activities, arts and crafts and a reading corner, as well as the chance to win some eco goodies in a competition.

To find out more about the day or to book a space on one of the activity sessions, contact the Amey education team on 01223 815490 or email: wasteeducation@amey.co.uk
